Insurance Immersion: Concord Group Insurance Visit

Last Tuesday, Marcus and I had the opportunity to visit Concord Group Insurance to attend their new agent on-boarding at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord, NH. This event was held by Concord Group as an introductory and informational session for agencies that have only recently offered Concord insurance to clients. While Chalmers is not new distributor of Concord products, we were still invited to attend the event in order learn more about Concord Group Insurance.

This on-boarding session was comprised of several different presentations by members of the Concord Group Team.  With speakers from customer service, personal lines, commercial lines, marketing, and claims, we certainly came out with plenty of information on the company’s products and procedures. It was also interesting to learn about the company’s organizational structure and their recent affiliation with Auto Owners Insurance of Lansing, Michigan. Concord Group will now benefit from a wider range of products and management tools through this affiliation, and will become reinsured by their new affiliate company. Auto Owners will also gain control of Concord Group’s board of directors. This affiliation has upgraded Concord Group's AM Best rating, as they now benefit from the financial backing of a larger organization. The members of Concord’s executive team seemed very excited with this affiliation, noting that it should greatly benefit Concord Group internally, as well as their clients and product lines.

This event was also a great chance to meet and network with other members of the New England insurance community. We were introduced to several directors and officers of Concord Group, and even had the chance to speak to Linda Day, President and CEO of Concord Group Insurance. We also shared a table with several small agency owners, as well as a Concord Group underwriter and operations director, giving us a great variety of industry professionals to converse with during lunch. We were able to hear the stories and experiences of these professionals, as well as what we could expect in their various roles in the industry. 

Once the event was finished, we were invited to a tour of the Concord Group headquarters by Maine marketing representative, Mike LaLiberte. We were led all around the large building where Mike gave us inside access to the accounting, actuarial, and IT departments. We even had the opportunity to see one of the original Concord Coaches, where we learned about the significance and relevance of the coach to the history of the company. This day was a fun networking experience and great opportunity to learn more about one of Chalmers’s carrier companies from a very dedicated and enthusiastic Concord Group team.
